The Unexpected World of Vintage Sewing Machines by Janice Schick
Described
as a person who is “passionate about vintage sewing machines,” Janice Schick is
a collector who owns machines from 1885 to the mid-1970s. She will speak on how
these ‘lockstitch’ devices have changed over almost a century and the community
of people she has met since starting her collection.
Janice Schick: “My interest in vintage sewing machines began in about 2010 when I spied a Singer 99K in a shop window on Queen West. Twelve years later I have somewhere near 50 vintage sewing machines dating between 1885 and the 1970s. They range from handcrank models to a couple of treadle machines but most of them are electric.”
