Curious Evolution of Riverdale Avenue

Riverdale Avenue runs for about a kilometre in its namesake neighbourhood in Toronto’s east end. Despite its short length, the street has a curious, layered history, one with lost and gained extensions, buried waterways, and disappearing transit lines. This talk will address the physical evolution of the street and explain how its modern form came to exist.

Bob Georgiou is a Toronto-based historian who has been writing on local history and geography since 2013. His writings have appeared in Spacing Magazine, the York Pioneer Journal, and his own endeavour Scenes From Toronto. He has also led walking tours in his neighbourhoods. His approach focuses on uncovering the physical layers of Toronto and the (hi) stories within them.
